The Port of Rotterdam Authority has signed an allocation agreement with the Rotterdam Polymer Hub (RPH), to establish a centre for the storage and distribution of polymers.

A joint initiative between the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Euro-Rhine Group and entrepreneur Geert Van De Ven, RPH will be the first logistics node in the Rotterdam port area to focus exclusively on the storage of polymers.

The two halls assigned to RPH, at Maasvlakte, have a combined floor area of 35,000 square metres and a storage capacity of up to 550,000 tonnes.

In addition to this, the selected sites are situated in close proximity to various deep-sea container terminals and transport connections with the European hinterland.

RPH will consist of a hall for the storage of packaged products and an outdoor area where cargo can be kept in 30-foot containers.

Emile Hoogsteden, Director of Containers, Breakbulk and Logistics at the Port of Rotterdam Authority, said: “We hatched the plan to set up a dedicated storage hub for polymers in Rotterdam in response to growing import flows from the Middle East and the US.”

Geert Van De Ven, Managing Director of RPH, also commented: “The Port of Rotterdam Authority has been closely involved in this project from the outset. Maasvlakte’s existing infrastructure aligns perfectly with the RPH concept.

“When you add the right partner – Euro-Rijn Group – and promising talks with various business-related service providers, Rotterdam more or less becomes a natural choice of location.”
