New project launched to reduce CO2 emissions

TINNews |

A2B-online Container, GoodFuels Marine and We4Sea announced the launch of a cooperation program aimed at reducing fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from two vessels of A2B online container.

The cost savings achieved by fuel will then be used to use advanced biofuels, which will further reduce CO2 emissions.

We4Sea first reviews the savings potential, after which GoodFuels Marine will fill this potentially cost-neutral with biofuels. A2B-online Container BV offers reliable short-sea services from Moerdijk port to various ports in the UK and wishes to improve the emissions performance of its vessels.

The Dutch company We4Sea will monitor the ships ‘MS A2B Future’ and ‘MS A2B Comfort’ over a specified period. Data on position and speed are combined with technically operational measurement data collected on board ships as well as weather, waves, wind and flow. This data is presented on a web platform, which gives A2B-online Container a good idea of the actual fuel consumption of their ships and the ability to make more fuel.

Dan Veen, CEO of We4Sea, said: ” In this project we want to prove that economics and ecology are well-connected. Efficiency and emission reduction are a win-win situation . “

The biofuels, supplied by GoodFuels Marine, are directly miscible with fossil gas oil (“drop-in”) and do not require adaptation to engine or infrastructure. When used in pure form, a CO 2 reduction can be achieved up to 90%. What proportion of biofuel gets within the fuel mix of A2B-online Container, depends on the fuel saving achieved with the help of We4Sea.

Isabel Welten, Business Development Manager at GoodFuels Marine, stated : “This collaborative project shows how solution providers can work together together. A beautiful example of a shipowner who not only focuses on quick profits but also selects a long-term sustainability perspective, combining energy efficiency strategically with the phasing in of renewable energy. “
