MOL containership makes fast in Hamburg

TINNews |

Tin news:  On Monday 15 May, around nine in the evening, the MOL TRIUMPH, one of the biggest container ships in the world, made fast in Hamburg at HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB).  The new flagship of Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) is the first vessel with a loading capacity of over 20,000 TEU in the Port of Hamburg.

The Port of Hamburg said that some 10,000 TEU will be loaded or discharged at CTB for the MOL TRIUMPH that is provisionally scheduled to leave the Elbe conurbation again at 4.00 am, on May 18.

Hamburg is one of the ship’s last calls, before her way back to Asia. Last week, she docked in Southampton, being the first giant container ship to ever call Northern Europe. She set off on her maiden voyage from Xingang, in April, and following, she is heading to Rotterdam and Le Havre.

With a capacity of 20,170 TEU, the vessel is among the largest container ships in the world, among Madrid Maersk (20,568 TEU) and OOCL Hong Kong (21,413 TEU).
