Heathrow Airport introduces new flight tracking tool

|
TIN news:    UK's Heathrow Airport has launched a new online tool, WebTrak My Neighbourhood, which provides residents with information about flight paths and patterns over time.

The new system is first of its kind to be used in the UK, and allows local residents and those moving into the area to easily access information about Heathrow's flight paths.

WebTrak My Neighbourhood allows users to type in their postcode into the map-based website to obtain information on how aircraft movements change over time, as well as how often particular flight paths are used.

Heathrow Sustainability director Matt Gorman said: "From meeting with communities around Heathrow, we know they want access to good quality information so they can understand patterns of aircraft noise in their local area and what is being done to tackle it.

The new website is an addition to the current Heathrow WebTrak system, which allows users to track specific flights, heights and aircraft types.

When used together, the two systems will allow users to track trends over time, as well as give them more access to both flight and aircraft route information.

Currently in the early stages of development, the system will get further enhancements over the next 18 months to help residents access information specific to their location.

Heathrow Airport is claimed to be the UK's only hub and the second airport in the world to launch the website showing flight paths after Eindhoven airport.
