Metro opens Green and Purple lines in Houston, US
TIN news: Houston's Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) in the US has opened its Green (East End) and Purple (South-East) lines, offering better connections on the network.
The new Green Line covers 3.3 miles from downtown, east along Harrisburg and the Purple Line runs 6.6 miles, connecting downtown with the University of Houston Central Campus, Texas Southern University and The Palm Center.
With these lines, the commuters will be able to connect with the downtown Theater District, nightlife and entertainment centres, including Discovery Green, the George R Brown Convention Center, Toyota Center, BBVA Compass Stadium and Minute Maid Park.
"The rail stations on these lines display its Arts in Transit programme, which exhibits the work of 22 artists who illustrate the cultural and artistic diversity of the communities they serve."
It will also give access to midtown, the Museum District, Texas Medical Center, Moody Park and the Northline Transit Center / HCC.

In January, METRO launched six new light rail cars at the Downtown Transit Center (DTC) Southbound platform in Houston, US.
The new units will give Metro enough rail cars to stage double-car service for five days a week.
The H3 (CAF) cars join 19 H2 and 18 H1 (Siemens S70) cars already serving the North and Main St (Red) Lines.
MetroRail will have 76 cars in operation once the 39 CAF H3 vehicles have been delivered.
