Ciudad Juarez International Airport (CJS) debuted a renovated passenger terminal, nearly doubling the facility's size and boosting passenger capacity at the regional airport in northern Mexico.

Airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA) manages the regional airport, one of 13 Mexican airports under OMA’s control. French airport developer Vinci Airports is OMA’s largest shareholder with a 30% stake.

CJS, located on the Mexico-U.S. border across from El Paso, Texas, is connected to 14 domestic points throughout the country. Aeromexico operates flights between the airport and Mexico City, while regional carrier TAR Aerolineas and LCCs Viva Aerobus and Volaris connect CJS to cities around Mexico.

The terminal renovation cost MXN828.4 ($44.4 million), with another MXN1.1 planned for continued work on the facility over the next five years.

The expansion, focused on growing and improving CJS’s airside, added 13,800 m² (148,540 ft.2) to the terminal, nearly doubling its size. The airport’s capacity is now 2.6 million passengers annually, according to OMA, which said additional construction to take place between 2026 and 2030 will further increase yearly capacity to 2.9 million passengers.

Work to be completed over the remainder of the decade will include expanding the check-in area, reconfiguring the baggage-claim area, building new access roads to the airport and introducing new technology intended to speed passenger flows.

“This project is more than just a physical expansion,” OMA CEO Ricardo Dueñass said. “It is a strategic investment in connectivity, competitiveness and passenger experience … boosting the regional economy.”
