Iranian Space Agency and Qeshm Free Zone Organization are set to jointly establish a space science park on Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz.

ISA CEO Morteza Barari and Managing Director of Qeshm Free Zone Organization Hamid Reza Momeni have signed  a deal for the establishment of the space science park.

According to ICT Ministry’s website, the park will act as a tourist attraction.

Momeni said, “In the first phase, the organization will invest 100 billion rials [$862,000] in the project. In the second phase, 800 billion rials [$6.9 million] will be required for the expansion of the project. For financing this phase, private sector potentials will be tapped.”

Because of its low light pollution and clean air quality, Qeshm has become a hotspot for star gazers.

In addition to promoting the island’s status as a popular tourist attraction, a science park can help spark public interest in space sciences.
