China Airlines has agreed to lease six Airbus A321neo twinjets under a new pact with US firm Air Lease.

The lessor has disclosed the agreement, stating that it will commence deliveries to the Taiwanese carrier from 2021 and continue them through to 2022.

All the aircraft will be sourced through Air Lease's backlog with Airbus.

China Airlines had disclosed earlier this year that it had entered a provisional agreement for 11 A321neos and would take another 14 on lease.

The carrier does not yet operate the single-aisle type, although it uses Airbus A330s and A350s.No engine selection has been disclosed.

Air Lease had 139 A321neos on firm order with Airbus at the end of September this year. It says it is "honoured" to be providing China Airlines' first six new aircraft.
