Hossein Haddadzadegan, Director General for the Department of Technical and Engineering Affairs at the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization detailed the initiative, confirming the project is being executed in two distinct phases, aimed at modernizing border infrastructure and facilitating the smoother transit and cargo movement. Upon completion, the border is poised to solidify its status as the national third-largest transit hub.

Stressing the critical role of the development in bolstering border security and safety for cross-border exchanges, Haddadzadegan noted that Phase One, encompassing site clearance and dedicated fuel transit lanes, commenced in August 2024 and continues apace.

The Director General further elaborated that Phase Two will focus on operational efficiency, involving the segregation of passenger, transit and export traffic flows, alongside comprehensive measures to reorganize the internal layout of the Bashmaq border complex, thereby streamlining the processing of both goods and travelers.
