Hitachi Rail and DB InfraGO have introduced a new digital dispatching system for Berlin’s S-Bahn network. The updated system, known as DiStEL, replaces an outdated platform at the Berlin operations control centre.
Developed using Hitachi Rail’s ARAMIS® platform, DiStEL is designed to support more responsive and stable rail operations. It enables quicker handling of service disruptions and improves coordination across multiple systems, including passenger information services.
Matthias Engelmann, Head of the Operations Control Center at DB InfraGO said:
With DiStEL, we are taking another important step toward a modern, connected, and customer-focused rail operation. The system’s high flexibility helps us keep operations stable, even in complex scenarios.
The introduction of DiStEL forms part of wider efforts to update rail operations with digital tools. The system is designed to accommodate future developments such as routing support and integration with the Digital European Driver Order, aligning with broader European rail standards.
Florian Fellbaum, Head of Sales & Business Development Berlin at Hitachi Rail in Germany said:
The most important success factor was the close coordination and collaboration between all project partners. This kind of cooperation is essential for tackling the challenges of the coming years.
