Hong Kong International Airport opens new Midfield Concourse
TIN news: The Midfield Concourse (MFC) of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has started its operations in full capacity, supporting the airport's development programme.
The occasion was marked by an opening ceremony organised by the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), which celebrated the completion of the MFC on time and within budget.
AA chairman Jack So Chak-kwong said: "The concourse is an important development project that will help HKIA meet increasing traffic demand in the medium term, as we work towards completion of the three-runway system.
"Incorporating numerous green features, the facility was designed with environmental sustainability in mind."
The five-storey MFC is located west of Terminal One between the two existing HKIA runways. It covers an area of 105,000m2 and provides 20 parking areas.
The airport allows passengers to reach the MFC from Terminal One using an extended automated people mover system.

Other amenities at the MFC include deck chairs placed along the glass facade, newly designed seats equipped with power sockets, and free Wi-Fi and internet-enabled computer stations.
The MFC also features more than 35 environmentally friendly technologies, including North-facing skylights, low-energy lighting systems, solar shading and high-performance facade glazing.
The facade maximises natural light and can regulate indoor temperature.
Capable of handling nearly 230 flights every day, the new concourse is expected to increase the airport's passenger handling capacity by ten million per year.
