USs Orlando Airport to begin development work on $۱.۸bn South Terminal Complex

TIN news: Orlando International Airport in the US is set to commence construction works for its $1.8bn South Terminal Complex (STC) Phase I Terminal C in early 2017.
Nearly two-thirds of the project's design phase has been completed, with only two design benchmarks remaining.
The STC's design team comprises US-based architecture firms Fentress Architects, Schenkel Shultz and HNTB.
The design incorporates the Boulevard, a corridor that runs through the terminal and links the major civic areas of the airport, including the ticket hall and concessions hub.
The STC will include ground transportation on the first level; ticketing, security and departures on the second level; and arrivals and baggage claim areas on the third level.
It will also feature faster baggage conveyors and radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for tracking luggage.
Greater Orlando Aviation Authority executive director Phil Brown said: “We're looking to create a new gateway for Orlando, one that captures the essence of Central Florida and enhances the Orlando experience.

“The South Terminal is designed to be intuitive so the passenger is drawn from one element to the next, creating an exciting and memorable arrival into the city of Orlando.”
While the STC and associated apron or taxiway will cover an area of 300 acres, the total building area will be about 2.7 million ft².
The first phase of the STC will comprise 16 gates that will be able to accommodate narrow body, jumbo and super jumbo aeroplanes.
The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
