FlixTrain has outlined several significant developments for its rail operations in Germany, confirming details of a major fleet expansion that will operate a nationwide network across Germany.

Earlier this year, the company ordered 65 newly built fully electric high-speed trains. It has now been announced that these will operate from 2028, reaching speeds of up to 230 km/h.

The new units will be produced in Europe, with locomotives supplied by Siemens in Germany and carriages manufactured by Talgo in Spain.

The trains will feature a barrier-free interior, intended to provide step-free access and improve travel conditions for passengers with reduced mobility.

In addition to this launch, the operator plans to double the size of its existing fleet within the next two years. A number of refurbished trains are scheduled to enter service from 2026, which FlixTrain says will increase capacity ahead of the introduction of the new electric units.

The company has also confirmed that the forthcoming fleet will underpin the launch of a nationwide network connecting major German cities, broadening the range of routes available to passengers.

FlixTrain reports continued growth in demand, and the planned investments are intended to support a larger and more frequent service offering in the coming years.
