Stadler has signed a framework agreement with Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) for the supply of 36 FLIRT trains, increasing capacity across the Dutch operator’s network.
The new units are set to be built entirely in Poland, and will enter service in 2030.
Consisting of the delivery 18 four-car and 18 six-car FLIRT trains, the agreement aims to meet the needs of growing ridership in the Netherlands.
Each of the new trains will feature an accessible interior, real-time passenger information displays, clear signage and designated areas for passengers with reduced mobility.
The fleet also features new lighting technology which automatically adjusts both brightness and colour temperature to suit the outside environment, time of day and season.
Ansgar Brockmeyer, Head of Marketing & Sales and Deputy Group CEO at Stadler, said:
Nederlandse Spoorwegen was looking for a modern vehicle for local transport that could also be used as an intercity train. The FLIRT train impressed NS with its modular and versatile concept.
Passengers can look forward to a comfortable, bright and well-designed train. I would like to thank NS for their trust and look forward to continuing our collaboration.
