Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has begun preparations to apply for a number of multi-billion PLN grants from the European Union to finance the construction of Poland’s very-first high-speed railway line, as well as a new HSR tunnel in Łódź.

Thus far, the company has already received roughly 500 million PLN in EU support for feasibility and design work on the Warsaw –Łódź section of the network.

The investment forms part of the EU’s Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), which aims to strengthen the Baltic-Adriatic corridor and improve sustainable transport links across Central Europe.

CPK will soon submit a set of new applications under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to orchestrate the construction of a set of key sections of the line between Warsaw and Łódź, as well as the 4.6-kilometre twin-track high-speed tunnel beneath Łódź.

Maciej Lasek, Government Plenipotentiary for CPK and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, said:

EU support has been essential to this project from the very start. The Warsaw–Łódź section, forming the backbone of the future national high-speed network, is advancing according to plan. We will submit the next wave of funding applications for the Warsaw–Łódź route and the technologically demanding Łódź tunnel next year.

The project is part of the European TEN-T transport network, and we are confident that it will continue to attract strong EU support.
