Denmark initiates maritime research and innovation project

TINNews |

Digitalisation and new business models will be in focus of the research and innovation project Blue INNOship II, created by Danish Maritime, Danish Shipping, the Danish Metalworkers’ Union, the Danish Maritime Authority, DTU, CBS and Force Technology.

The steering group counting participants have created the basis for initiating the work through the hiring of a project manager.

The maritime innovation project Blue INNOship focuses on the smart ship of the future, including digital solutions, measurement and control surfaces, Internet of Things, autonomous systems and operations, cyber security, sustainability, energy efficiency, regulatory needs and future business models.

The project will initially run until spring 2018 and will be presented in two results. First, an analysis that describes the strengths, challenges and development possibilities of Blue Denmark, based on the Growth Team’s report. Thus, benchmarks will be set for future development needs. Next, a concrete application for the Innovation Fund, which is expected to be published in spring 2018. At the same time, other projects, such as research, should also be founded.

“Blue INNOship II addresses central issues of importance to the competitiveness of Blue Denmark. I look forward to the work resulting in specific project proposals for innovation and research, and this requires that all good forces in Blue Denmark are involved in the work. At the same time, it is important to look at the interface with, for example, ports and transport and logistics systems since ships should be considered a part of overall transport systems,”stated Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority Andreas Nordseth.
