New study reveals increasing public support for airport expansion in UK

TIN news:   A recent survey has revealed that the UK Government has increased public support for airport expansion.
 
People who live near Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, London City and Stansted airports are more likely to be in favour of expansion at their local facility than they were in 2010.
 
The survey is in line with a poll from market research company Populus, which showed that Heathrow residents were 25% more likely to vote for a councillor if they supported expansion at the airport.
"This independent study confirms that support for airport expansion is growing."
 
According to the survey, approximately 48% of participants supported plans for a third runway at Heathrow, while 57% responded positively towards the airport.
 
Heathrow Airport CEO John Holland-Kaye said: "This independent study confirms that support for airport expansion is growing. More people understand the benefits of a third runway to local communities including the creation of 50,000 more jobs, improved public transport and thriving local businesses.
 
"Since 2010, we have listened to local residents and developed a new approach to a third runway at Heathrow that delivers the benefits of growth but with less impact for local people."
 
According to the survey in 2010, roughly 41% of the respondents were in favour for the airport expansion. However, the recent survey shows that this number has now gone up to 47%.
