TIN news:   A joint venture between BAM Nuttall and Morgan Sindall has secured a £35m contract to work on the M1 motorway in the UK.

Awarded under the UK Highways Agency's National Major Projects Framework, the contract involves the replacement of the existing barrier, as well as facilitates a future smart motorway scheme between Junctions 16 and 19.

Under the deal, the contractors will replace more than 12 miles of existing steel safety barrier with a slip-formed concrete barrier, as well as strengthen and stabilise the hard shoulder and accommodate new drainage and communication systems in the central reserve.
"We are looking forward to continuing our collaborative partnership with the Highways Agency."

bmJV highways director Gary Crisp said: "bmJV is an established joint venture that is already successfully delivering other Highways Agency projects.

"We are looking forward to continuing our collaborative partnership with the Highways Agency to improve the existing road network and shorten journey times for road users."

The work is scheduled to start in August and will be completed in June 2015.
