After a fire broke out on the Zoya 1, off the Strait of Hormuz, four people were killed, in spite of initial information that claimed that the crew had been rescued. The fire occurred 34 kilometers (21 miles) off Sharjah.

According to officials in the UAE, Emirati authorities will carry out a DNA test to see if two of the dead were the two Indian sailors that were reported missing, while two others Indians were also killed.

The tanker caught fire in the Persian Gulf, off the Strait of Hormuz. According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the ship was on fire 21 nautical miles (39 km) northwest of United Arabs Emirates city Sharjah.

At the time of the incident, the ship's crew of 12 Indians and 44 others worked to prepare it to be scrapped in India, while the cause of the fire remains unknown.

After the incident, initial information did not acknowledge any deaths, claiming that the tanker was unloaded and its crew were rescued.
