The Port of Tallin has officially announced the construction of  anew terminal located in the Harbor of Tallinn's Old City and the promenade area nearby the port, which will consist of energy efficiency and eco-friendly technologies.

According to the business manager for cruise and ferry at Port of Tallinn, Ingrid Berezin, the project of this future terminal has focused on the real-time needs of cruise passengers and city residents, considering as well today's sustainability issues, in light of the new environmental and green regulations that are being implemented throughout all the sectors of the shipping industry.

"Opening of the seaside for the city residents and guests is just as important. We are convinced that the new terminal and pedestrian promenade will become one of the business cards of the city and a leisure time location beloved by the locals."

...the manager Ingrid Berezin also noted.

A 900-meter-long non-motorized traffic route and promenade with green areas, benches and shelters for walkers will be built on the roof of the terminal from the present entrance to the cruise area until the end of the Old City Harbor northwestern quay.

The building will be heated by a sea-water powered heating system and additionally powered by solar energy. Some of the main materials will be: glass, concrete, heat-treated pinewood and steel.

Outside cruise season, the building will be capable of hosting 2,000 people, meaning that this area can be used for events, concerts or other conferences. The complex will furthermore include a restaurant, which will operate all year round and offer free-time activities for the people visiting the promenade.

The construction of the cruise terminal and the promenade area is 6 of December. The complex is planned to be finished in the summer of 2021.
