THE government of Victoria has selected CPB Contractors for a $A 158m ($US 107m) contract to upgrade power systems on the Sunbury suburban line in Melbourne in preparation for the start of high-capacity metro train operation through the city’s new 9km Metro Tunnel.

Work includes upgrades to overhead electrification between Sunbury and South Kensington and at South Yarra, signalling power upgrades and additional infrastructure at Calder Park siding.

The 9km cross-city Metro Tunnel will connect Cranbourne – Packenham line in the southeast with the Sunbury Line in the northwest and is scheduled for completion in 2025.

CPB Contractors is part of the Rail Infrastructure Alliance (RIA), which was awarded a $A 1bn contract to build tunnel entrances in Kensington and South Yarra, new platforms at Weest Footscray and associated suburban rail upgrades in September 2018.

Other consortium members are contractor John Holland and Aecom, which is acting as the design partner.
