University bus accident death toll rises to 10

The number of students who were killed in Tuesday bus accident in the campus of Azad University of Science and Research in Tehran mounted to 10, Tehran Emergency reported.

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), head of Tehran Emergency Public Relations Office Mohammad Karam Dorabadi said another student named Mohammad Reza Fazilati who was hospitalized succumbed to serious injuries.

The accident also injured 26 others who have been hospitalized, he added. 

Some sources have reported the bus driver had a heart stroke prior to the incident and this is the reason behind hitting a concrete wall and the capsizing of the bus.

The director of public affairs at Tehran's Emergency Department, however, has dismissed such reports, saying it cannot be decided whether the driver was dead prior to the incident or passed away following it.

Investigations into the cause of the incident are underway.
