In a joint press conference in the Netherlands on Monday, Chinese Premier, Li Keqiang, and Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, called for global efforts to support and promote free trade and safeguard multilateralism to tackle the current and rising challenges facing the world.

Namely, the Chinese Premier said that the two countries will cooperate to enhance free trade and improve the multilateral trading system amid the climate of growing uncertainties, while he also highlighted the importance of the correlation of free trade and fair trade for a sustainable development, China Daily reported.

In addition, Li noted that multilateralism does not mean disrespect for country-to-country relations, but a promotion to the democratization of international politics. He further emphasized that China will continue to expand its self-opening:

"Our open policy is the same for all countries and enterprises. In the future, we will further liberalize the financial services industry and expand market access for manufacturing and service industries. China has opened its doors to welcome enterprises from all over the world. I hope that you will seize the new round of reform and opening up in China and achieve mutual benefit and common development."

On his turn, Rutte urged all the big countries to work together to promote the improvement of the multilateral trading system, promote the development of free and fair trade, continue to address global challenges, and carry out third-party market cooperation to push forward bilateral relations and cooperation.

"Free and fair trade is about not only how we can share the cake, it is also about how we can make the cake bigger,"

...he was quoted as saying.
