A Boeing MD-82 operated by Taiwan's Far Eastern Air Transport (FAT) was involved in an engine failure incident on 2 July.

The island's Aviation Safety Council (ASC) says the incident took place at 19.05 local time, when the aircraft, registered B-28035, issued an urgent signal while descending at 2,800ft (853m). It was preparing to land at Taipei Songshan airport, where it was operating as flight FE8026 on the Penghu-Taipei Songshan route.

The aircraft safely landed two minutes later, and that no injuries were reported.

ASC notes that the left-hand engine suffered damage to its internal components, and punctures were found on the cowling. An investigation has been launched.

Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that the MD-82 was built in 1995, and was bought by FAT in September 2004. It is powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-217C engines.
