Australia’s BMD wins contract for Yan Yean Road project

TINNews |

Australian company BMD Constructions has secured a contract to widen the Yan Yean Road located in Plenty, about 30km north of Melbourne’s central business district (CBD).

The upgrade will improve both safety and travel times on the Yan Yean Road.

Under the contract, BMD will design and construct the 3.9km road stretch and widen it from two to four lanes between Diamond Creek Road to Kurrak Road.

The company will also upgrade four intersections at River Avenue, Kurrak Road, Memorial Drive and Diamond Creek Road.

Victoria Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan said: “We’re getting on with the job of fixing Yan Yean Road for the thousands of people across the outer northern suburbs who rely on it every day.

“This vital upgrade will improve safety and reduce congestion so that people can spend less time stuck in traffic and more time at home.”

Additionally, the upgrade works will include a continuous centre median to prevent head-on crashes, straightening the road to improve driver visibility and new service roads to allow residents to safely access their properties.

BMD will also develop new off-road cycling and pedestrian paths along the length of the upgrade. Construction works are expected to begin later this year.

The second stage of the Yan Yean Road upgrade through Yarrambat and Doreen received A$94m ($73.6m) of funding in this year’s State Budget.

This upgrade will be tendered at a later date once VicRoads completes planning and negotiations with impacted property owners.
