Brisbane Airport awards $۱۲۰m contract to McConnell Dowell for Dryandra road works
TIN news: Australia’s Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has awarded a $120m contract to New Zealand-based infrastructure construction company McConnell Dowell to carry out construction for the airport’s new Dryandra road works project.
The new contract involves the development of a reinforced concrete four-lane underpass, which will be an important structural element for the airport's new runway.
The project is expected to generate up to 300 new job opportunities during its construction period.
McConnell Dowell Dryandra Road Works project manager Grant Gibson said: “McConnell Dowell is excited to be involved in the new runway project and look forward to working with Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) to deliver this crucial piece of infrastructure at Brisbane Airport.”
The four-lane underpass will allow vehicles to travel under the taxiways linking Brisbane Airport’s new runway to both the domestic and international terminals, as well as the existing runway system.
The underpass will enable continued access to major airport facilities, such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the General Aviation Terminal and the Acacia Street viewing area.

Expected to commence in March, on-site works are scheduled to be completed in August 2018.
BAC CEO and managing director Julieanne Alroe said: “Most importantly, when the new runway opens in 2020, Brisbane Airport will have one of the most efficient runway systems in the country, with sufficient capacity for many years to come.
“Efficient operations and ample capacity will attract more opportunities and boost business, injecting an estimated $13bn into the Australian economy by 2034 and supporting more than 88,000 jobs nationwide.”
