Q - Free secures traffic management contract from VDOT

TIN news:   Q-Free, a Norwegian supplier of ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) products and solutions, has secured a contract from Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in the US.
As per the terms of the NOK200m ($24.9m) contract, Q-Free will be responsible for implementation and maintenance of a new Statewide Advanced Transportation Management System.
Q-Free president and CEO Hakon Volldal said: “We are very pleased to continue our strong and lengthy partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation and excited about the opportunity to bring them to the forefront of traffic management technology.
"Q-Free will be responsible for implementation and maintenance of a new Statewide Advanced Transportation Management System."
"This contract further builds our record high order backlog going into next year.”
Q-Free will be delivering centralised web-based Open TMS software and services, which will combine five Transportation Operations Centers (TOC) on a single statewide platform.
Open TMS software will offer a wide range of benefits and features to VDOT including consistent operations throughout the state, as well as technology upgrade from a client / server application to a hosted browser based application that is accessible through a standard web browser.
The software will also offer uninterrupted operations for mission-critical TOC functions and the ability to provide supplemental operations for TOC’s in the event of an emergency such as TOC infrastructure maintenance, a network or power outage.
It will facilitate consistent and planned responses to incidents through statewide automated response plans.
The company also claims that its software and services will help VDOT in reducing their maintenance costs due to the elimination of regionally maintained systems and incorporation of the VaTraffic and lane closure applications into a single state wide solution.
