Indian government - owned ports handle ۴۳ mil mt thermal coal in April - August

TIN news:   India’s 12 major government-owned ports handled around 43 million mt of thermal coal over April-August, a fall of 3% on the year, according to data from the Indian Ports Association.
However, coking coal shipments received by the 12 ports in the first five months of the 2016-17 fiscal year (April-March) touched 20.8 million mt, up by 3.7% on the year, the data showed.
Paradip port on the east coast handled the highest volume of thermal coal during the five-month period of 12.15 million mt, down 4.6% from a year earlier.
Kolkata port also on east coast handled the highest coking coal shipments in April-August of around 5.5 million mt, down 18%.
The 12 ports are Kolkata, Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Ennore, Chennai, VO Chidambaranar (Tuticorin), Cochin, New Mangalore, Mormugao, Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Kandla.
Chennai port and JNPT didn’t receive any coal cargoes during April-August.
