GE buys ShipXpress to expand digital railway portfolio

TIN news:   GE Transportation has purchased ShipXpress, a Cloud-based software solutions provider that helps railways operate smoothly with supply chain partners.
The acquisition has helped GE Transportation expand its digital railway portfolio into the logistics chain, allowing the company to provide new services for freight shippers.
The deal has also enabled GE Transportation to expand its information and transaction offerings for railways.   
With the deal, the company will add around 200 technical and software development experts to its workforce.

GE Transportation president and CEO Jamie Miller said: “Our combined capabilities will help short-line railroads better analyse their rail operations, car accounting and supply chain information, and deliver a data-rich path to ongoing performance improvement, asset and operations optimisation.”
As well as railways, GE provides equipment, services and solutions to the mining, marine, stationary power and drilling industries.
ShipXpress co-founder and co-CEO Seth Maerowitz said: "Through this integration, we will help our customers achieve the promise of real-time collaboration among trading partners, the industrial internet; greater control, lower costs and increased operational efficiencies."
The software solutions developed by the company will help businesses of all types and sizes manage data, simplify manual processes, and improve analysis.
