  • India has doubled the allocated funding for the development of Iran’s Chabahar port in its national budget bill for 2020, Times of India reported on Saturday.

  • The Cabinet of South Korea has approved a motion based on nurturing industries for eco-friendly vessels, in order to deal easier with the strict IMO 2020 regulations and reduce the shipping emissions. Namely, the trade ministry reported that would force a set of measure, to spread and boost the development and supply of such ships.

  • Port of Gothenburg recently published its freight figures for 2019, presenting a growth in its container volumes. Specifically, 456.000 TEU were transported through the port's rail infrastructure, marking the largest rail volume in the port's 400-year history.

  • On the occasion of its 125th tear anniversary on 24 January, Antwerp-based shipping company Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB) announced it has offset all its CO2 emissions in order to have net zero CO2 emissions as from 2020.

  • MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique have signed firm contracts for the construction of third and fourth LNG-powered MSC World Class ships.

  • 2019 was a relatively safe year for shipping in the port of Rotterdam. Over the past year, the number of sea-going vessels arriving was about the same as in 2018: 29,491 compared to 29,476 last year. The number of accidents also remained virtually the same: 113 compared to 112, which involved mainly ‘parking damage’. As there was one very serious accident, the NSI (Nautical Safety Index) – a reflection of nautical safety – was slightly below the norm (6.56 instead of 7). This was due to a collision between a RHIB and a sloop, which resulted in one fatality. Three of the four serious accidents and ten per cent of all accidents involved passenger shipping.

  • Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science and Germany Leibniz Association signed a contract on maritime research, IRNA reported on Saturday.

  • Hapag-Lloyd recently announced its collaboration with the 2M Alliance members, Maersk and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). Specifically, companies signed a space charter agreement which will further allow Hapag-Lloyd's entrance into selected services of 2M on the Asia-North Europe trade.

  • Hutchison Ports will operate two brand new super-post-Panamax cranes at the container terminal at the Stockholm Norvik Port. The container cranes started their journey from Shanghai on 10th January and will arrive for installation at the new port at the end of March.
