Tinn news: The recent FRC International WBV and H-SURV seminars held at the RNLI Lifeboat College, Poole UK, were welcomed by the maritime industry as a good opportunity to discuss the important issue of whole body vibration and health surveillance.

The sector was well represented by military, SAR, government agencies, port authorities, police and commercial operators. Boat builders and specialist equipment manufacturers also gained a lot of new knowledge from the event. David Price, from US boat builder Tampa Yacht Manufacturing, said: "This is probably the best seminar on any subject I have ever been to. It has been open and very informative."

End user organisations were keen to know what steps others are taking to address the issues of whole body vibration (WBV) and health surveillance. Alan Cartwright, head of marine engineering, Port of London Authority (PLA), said: "What I found most useful about the WBV seminar was discussion with practitioners and providers, also the presentation from Dr Tom Gunston about vibration measurement."

Dr Trevor Dobbins led the technical presentations, he has recently presented new concepts to the US Navy and passed on what are now global views on both WBV and health surveillance. FRC director, John Haynes said: "The seminars delivered two days of informative presentations that were greatly enhanced by audience participation."
