Singapore selects Delphi Automotive for autonomous mobility - on - demand programme

TIN news:   Delphi Automotive, a UK-based technology company, has been chosen by the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) as its strategic partner for implementation of autonomous mobility concepts.
As a strategic partner, Delphi will provide a fleet of autonomous vehicles and develop a cloud-based autonomous mobility-on-demand software (AMoD) suite.
Delphi president and chief executive officer Kevin Clark said: “We are honored to partner with the Singapore LTA on advancing innovative mobility systems, which will put Singapore at the forefront of autonomous vehicle adoption.
“This is a great recognition of Delphi's leadership in advanced safety technologies, automated software, systems integration, as well as our ability to drive these mobility solutions forward for our customers.”
Delphi will conduct trials of point-to-point, low-speed, autonomous, mobility-on-demand service at Autonomous Vehicles Test Bed, a business park located in the western part of Singapore.
Delphi's AMoD development programme and autonomous vehicle demonstration are part of the Singapore Autonomous Vehicle Initiative (SAVI), which was formed in 2014 to manage autonomous vehicle research, test-bedding, and applications developed by industry partners.
Delphi develops vehicle-based safety technologies for fully automated vehicles. These technologies include advanced sensors, software and electrical distribution.
"Developing a cloud-based software servicing capability integrated with the vehicle creates an end-to-end solution that will eventually allow our existing, and many potential new customers, the ability to enter emerging mobility markets."
Delphi chief technology officer Jeff Owens said: “As a partner in SAVI, Delphi will use a foundation of the same vehicle technologies that enabled us to successfully complete the first coast-to-coast autonomous drive of the United States in 2015.
“Developing a cloud-based software servicing capability integrated with the vehicle creates an end-to-end solution that will eventually allow our existing, and many potential new customers, the ability to enter emerging mobility markets.”
The Singapore LTA pilot programme will continue for three years with plans to move into an operational service by 2022.
