Turner & Townsend and IGG to support Amsterdam Airport Schiphol expansion plan

TIN news:   UK-based consultancy Turner & Townsend and construction finance firm IGG have jointly secured a contract to provide cost management for a major expansion of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands.
Under the deal, the companies will jointly manage all construction costs to set-up a new terminal and pier, and other associated projects, both land and airside at the airport.
Due to be completed in 2023, the new terminal at Schiphol airport will be built to the south of Schiphol Plaza, directly next to the airport's air traffic control (ATC) tower and will be linked to the existing terminal.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol A Area project director Gerard Geurtjens said: "Amsterdam Airport Schiphol needs additional space in order to accommodate and facilitate the growth in both the number of passengers and air transport movements.
"With the development of a new pier and terminal, Schiphol is investing in the capacity and quality of Mainport Schiphol, as well as strengthening the airport's international competitive position.
"Schiphol is working hard to improve accessibility to the airport through investments in the public transport hub."
"At the same time, Schiphol is working hard to improve accessibility to the airport through investments in the public transport hub, Schiphol Plaza and the Jan Dellaertplein."
Once operational, the terminal will be capable of handling 14 million passengers annually, taking the total number of more than 70 million passengers at the airport hub per annum.
The pier will be built near Cargo Station One and provide enough space to house several wide and narrow-body aeroplanes.
The new flexible pier is expected to be operational in late-2019.
Renovation works will also be carried out on the surrounding road network, while the existing parking facilities will be relocated.
