AMSA: Detained vessel in Brisbane now released

TIN neews:    AMSA announced that the Panama-flagged bulk carrier African Alke which was detained last week in Brisbane after a port state control inspection revealed that ship’s bridge watch-keeping officers were unable to show they could operate ECDIS, has been released
The African Alke remained berthed at Fisherman Islands on Friday morning.
The Brisbane Times reports that an AMSA spokesman said a port state control inspection found the 177-metre ship’s safety management system had not identified a failure in the lack of on board familiarisation training in the use of ECDIS, therefore the crew was unable to demonstrate they could use the vessel’s Electronic Chart Display and Information System.
AMSA stated it will release the ship from detention once it is satisfied the crew have been trained to an appropriate standard and can demonstrate the expected level of competency.
