easyJet opens self - service bag drop facility at London Gatwick Airport

TIN news:    European airline easyJet has opened its new check-in area in the North Terminal at London Gatwick Airport
This new automated bag drop facility aims to minimise queues at check-in.
It has reduced check-in time by half, and passenger wait times are now less than five minutes.
"Gatwick is of huge importance to easyJet both strategically and for the millions of our passengers who travel through the airport every year."
The facility contains 48 self-service bag drop kiosks across an area of more than 5,000m².
Passengers arriving at the facility are directed towards the autodrop area by easyJet staff.
Their passports and boarding passes are then verified before they can proceed to the self-service kiosks and place their bags onto a weigh scale.
A luggage tag is automatically generated by the kiosks and attached to the bag by the customer.
The tags are verified by laser scanners before the bag is dispatched to the aircraft.
easyJet UK Director Sophie Dekkers said: "As our largest base Gatwick is of huge importance to easyJet both strategically and for the millions of our passengers who travel through the airport every year.
"We recognise that our customer's airport experience is a crucial part of their overall journey and so we are delighted to have opened this new area for our customers flying from London Gatwick.
"Our vision is for Gatwick to be both our biggest and best airport and this opening enables us to further deliver on our ambition to make travel easy and affordable for all of our customers."
In January 2017, easyJet aims to move all of its operations at Gatwick to the North Terminal.
