Neste Jacobs investigates the potential of LNG with Port of Turku

TIN news:   Technology, engineering and project management Company Neste Jacobs and Port of Turku have signed a contract for Neste Jacobs to investigate the potential and possibilities of LNG in Turku region together with the Port of Turku. The LNG terminal is planned to be located in Pansio harbour area in Turku. It would enable availability of low emission and environmental friendly LNG in the Turku area. The terminal would serve both maritime traffic, and public transport and the local industry needs.
Neste Jacobs has long experience and in-depth understanding of LNG technologies and handling of natural gas. Additionally, Neste Jacobs’ Turku office has extensive know-how of the local process industry sector and LNG possibilities in the area. The project reviews also the demand potential of LNG in the Turku area, and in maritime traffic, and other factors supporting the project implementation.
“This project is a recognition of Neste Jacobs’ local knowledge and continuous long-term co-operation with Port of Turku”, says Jarmo Suominen, CEO of Neste Jacobs. “Our strategy is to be the leading engineering company in the gas sector, including LNG.”
“Port of Turku considers this project to be highly important as LNG is a future trend and we want to contribute to its development in the Turku area. We have already great experience of using LNG in Turku region, as it has been used on Viking Grace passenger ferry. The use of LNG as a maritime or industrial fuel, outside the natural gas distribution network in Finland, requires guaranteed availability and distribution of LNG to a competitive price. Port of Turku wants to actively support the use of LNG together with Neste Jacobs and other companies in this field”, says Christian Ramberg, CEO, Port of Turku.
Neste Jacobs Oy has been involved in building the natural gas infrastructure in Finland from the very beginning. In addition to that Neste Jacobs has several ongoing LNG projects in Finland and abroad.
