Tampa International Airport opens Concession Distribution and Receiving Centre

TIN news:   Tampa International Airport has opened its new Concession Distribution and Receiving Centre, the first finished project of the $953m expansion that began in 2014.
This centre will screen food products and goods in order to thwart attempts of smuggling weapons or suspicious objects into the main complex, reported Wfla.com.

The 20,000ft2 facility will be operated by Bradford Airport Logistics and will have 20 employees.
The construction of the facility cost the airport $8.9m.
TIA CEO Joe Lopano was quoted by Wfla.com as saying: "This is going to be the most high-tech centre around this country."

During the next few months, the airport will see opening of 65 new restaurants and retail outlets, reported News Channel Eight.
The airport undertook the expansion in late 2014.
As part of the project, a mini-version of a transit system will be installed in order to enable passengers move around the airport with convenience.

The $953m project will also see expansion of the main terminal; a taxiway bridge that would take aircraft over TIA roadways; development of a rental car centre south of the terminal; and a 1.4-mile people-mover that will link the terminal with rental car centre and a transit hub.
The expansion project is expected to be completed by late 2017.
The expansion is being undertaken in three phases.
Once the project is completed, TIA will be able to handle a passenger traffic of 34.7 million by 2041, twice than the total recorded in 2015.
The master plan for the expansion is estimated to bring an annual passenger growth of 2%.
