Alstom and Bouygues consortium to upgrade and extend Manila LRT Line ۱

TIN news:   A consortium of Alstom and Bouygues Travaux Publics has won a €450m contract from Light Rail Manila (LRMC) in Philippines to upgrade and extend light rail transit (LRT) line 1 of the Manila metro.
In the contract, Alstom's share is worth €160m and will provide an integrated metro solution, including a signalling and communication system, traction power supply and track work on the 12km extended line.
A new depot is to be built as part of the contract, and the existing depot will be extended.
"Alstom is looking forward to providing customers and partners its expertise in integrated transport solutions."
Alstom said in a statement: "With 16 million inhabitants in Manila and only three metro lines, it was necessary to alleviate congestion and reduce travel times for commuters.
"In 20 years, the LRT-1 line, which is serving 20 stations along its 20km route, has experienced an increase of its daily ridership from over 400,000 to 500,000 today."
Alstom will also install Atlas 100 on-board signalling solution for 60 trains and upgrade signalling system for the existing 20km line.
The extended LRT-line 1 corridor is scheduled to enter into commercial service in 2020.
Upon completion of the extension, the LRT-line 1 will have eight stations and will be capable of carrying about 800,000 passengers per day.
Alstom Asia Pacific senior vice-president Dominique Pouliquen said: "We are pleased to sign this contract today, which aims to offer Manila's inhabitants a safe, fast and reliable transportation system, which takes part in the economic development of the Philippines.
"Alstom is looking forward to providing customers and partners its expertise in integrated transport solutions."
In addition, an Alstom-Bombardier consortium has won a €72.7m signalling contract from Spain's Administrator of Railway Infrastructure (ADIF).
As part of the deal, the Alstom-led consortium will supply ERTMS signalling systems and 20 years of maintenance services for a 56km-long suburban line linking L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Mataró in Barcelona, Spain.
The consortium will deliver the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the signalling communication systems.
The deal will see Alstom implement its radio-based Atlas 200 ERTMS Level 2 solution for the entire line, while Bombardier will be responsible for the electronic interlocking system with its EBI Lock 950 computer-based solution.
