Airfare Deregulation Takes Effect

TIN news:   Airplane ticket fares have been liberalized in 170 domestic routes while tickets of the remaining 87 routes will be sold at prescribed rates. According to an announcement made by Civil Aviation Organization of Iran, guidelines on airfare deregulation were communicated to airlines on November 30 and went into effect soon after, IRNA reported. “Routes linking Kish and Qeshm Islands and oil towns are among the routes whose ticket fares have been liberalized,” said CAO public relations manager, Reza Jafarzadeh, adding that the move is aimed at creating competition among airline companies, which would provide passengers with more choices and help raise the quality of transport services. Earlier, Ali Abedzadeh, the CAO chief, had underlined the fact all air ticket prices will be liberalized by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2016) as part of the Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2011-16), noting that airfare deregulation does not necessarily entail an increase in ticket fares.
