UK welcomes new domestic and international air routes

TIN news:   UK Aviation Minister Robert Goodwill has announced the addition of new air routes from regional airports across the country.
Around 11 successful bidders, who submitted their bids to the UK Department for Transport in March this year, will receive up to £7m in aid from the Regional Air Connectivity Fund to introduce new routes. The fund already supports strategic routes to London from Newquay and Dundee.
The airports with fewer than five million passengers have participated in the start-up aid bidding competition.
Goodwill said: "Our smaller airports are vital engines for local economies, connecting the UK and opening up opportunities. That is why the government is backing new regional air routes to drive investment and benefit hardworking people across the country."

Scheduled to begin in 2016, the new domestic and international routes will offer fast journeys within the country and Europe.
The new routes from Carlisle to Belfast City, Carlisle to Dublin, Carlisle to Southend, Dundee to Amsterdam, Derry to Dublin, Newquay to Leeds-Bradford, Norwich to Exeter, Norwich to Newcastle, Oxford to Edinburgh, Southampton to Lyon, and Southampton to Munich, are expected to drive investment, increase passenger numbers and deliver a more sustainable service.
Stobart Air, Flybe, Citywings and Linksair will launch the new flights that are expected to offer fast journeys across the UK and Europe.
