Iran to hold intl. confab on investment opportunities in transportation

TIN news:   The event dubbed “Iran Transportation and Urban Development Summit: Investment Opportunities (ITUDS 2015)” will be held in the Iranian capital city, Tehran, on October 3-4.

According to Gholamreza Salami, senior advisor to Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi, the summit aims to introduce investment opportunities in transportation, housing, and urban development sector of Iran.

The official said urban development and expansion of high-quality infrastructure are major indicators of overall development in all countries, adding that achievement of this goal requires hefty investment in necessary infrastructure.

Salami added that the conference also seeks to emphasize role of the private sector in development of urban infrastructure, noting that due to large number of urban projects, the government cannot make all the necessary investment in the sector alone.

The conference is to be held at the IRIB International Conference Center with 150 foreign and 800 domestic participants.

During the conference, 121 important projects related to Iran's transportation sector and urban development requiring USD 25 billion in investment will be offered to domestic and foreign investors.

Prominent foreign guests to attend the event include Switzerland’s Federal Minister of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications Doris Leuthard, India’s Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and Secretary General of the Intergovernmental Organization for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF) François Davenne.

In addition, a number of other foreign dignitaries, including ministers, ambassadors and secretaries general of several international organizations have been invited to the event.
