Canada allows smaller airports to invest in security screening

TIN news:        The Canadian Government has introduced new regulations that enable smaller airports procure security screening services on a cost-recovery basis.
 
Out of the 200 airports in the country offering commercial flights, several smaller airports have expressed interest in obtaining the screening services to enhance security.
 
The screening services will allow these non-designated airports to offer passengers an option of connecting flights to bigger airports.
"In doing so, we are helping air transportation contribute to employment, economic growth and Canadian communities."
 
Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Rob Nicholson said: "By working with our partners in private and public sectors, we continue to strengthen the security and efficiency of our aviation system.
 
"In doing so, we are helping air transportation contribute to employment, economic growth and Canadian communities."
 
Canada is currently working on implementing changes to the Canadian Aviation Security Regulations, 2012 that is slated to be published in Canada Gazette, Part II today.
 
Recently, the government has announced steps to strengthen the screening of air cargo across the country.
