Dallas / Fort Worth airport evacuates two planes after incidents

TIN news:        The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in the US was forced to evacuate two planes due to two unrelated incidents that caused minor injuries to three people.

In the first incident, around 141 passengers and five crew members were evacuated from American Airlines flight 1658 through emergency slides and exits, after smoke was detected in its cabin.

The airlines said in a statement that a hydraulic fluid leaked into the auxiliary power unit caused smoke in the cabin of the flight headed to the Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
"Our fleet service team was still on the ramp and assisted passengers and crew with a successful evacuation of the aircraft."

American Airlines spokesperson Andrea Huguely said: "Our fleet service team was still on the ramp and assisted passengers and crew with a successful evacuation of the aircraft."

The second incident occurred around an hour after the previous incident, when a Spirit Airlines' flight caught fire on one of the landing gear tyres after landing at the airport.

The Spirit Airline 407 was flying in from Orlando and was carrying around 178 passengers.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the airport fire services. No emergency evacuation was required following the incident. There were no injuries suffered.

The incidents are currently being investigated and did not result into any delays at the airport.

DFW is the third busiest airport in the world and handles around 900 flights a day.
