Dhaka metro station design contract awarded

TIN news:    Dhaka Mass Transit Co has appointed John McAslan + Partners to design the 16 elevated stations and the depot for metro Line 6.
 
The architectural practice is working with Nippon Koei, Delhi Metro Rail Corp and Mott MacDonald. It is also undertaking urban integration studies with local architects Development Design Consultants ‘to embed the stations into their immediate and wider urban context’.
 
The first metro line in the city would run 20·1 km from Uttara North to Motijheel and is to be built in three phases. The foundation stone was laid in October 2013 and completion of all three phases is due by 2022. Ridership is forecast to be 505 000 passengers/day by 2025.
