TramRus tram coming to St Petersburg

TIN news:    The TramRus joint venture of Alstom and Transmashholding is to supply a tram to St Petersburg by December 1. This would be the first 100% low-floor tram to run in the city, according to the manufacturer.

The tram is currently undergoing testing at TramRus’s Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant in St Petersburg. It has been designed for the city’s cold climate, complex ground profile and heavy passenger flows. It has a service life of 30 years and consumes 10% less energy than the city’s current trams.

The 25 m long air-conditioned vehicle has capacity for 200 passengers, and would include wheelchair spaces.

The first tram produced by TramRus, developed from Alstom’s Citadis family, commenced trial commercial operation in Moscow in August.
