World’s biggest construction vessel heads to Norway

Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit, the biggest construction vessel in the world, left Rotterdam harbour in Sunday 27 May 2018. The vessel will sail to the Norwegian sector of the North Sea to install the 22,000 Johan Sverdrup drilling platform topsides for Equinor.

Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit, the biggest construction vessel in the world, left Rotterdam harbour in Sunday 27 May 2018. The vessel will sail to the Norwegian sector of the North Sea to install the 22,000 Johan Sverdrup drilling platform topsides for Equinor.

The vessel is 382 meters long and 124 meters wide and had previously completed the pipelaying work on the Turk Stream gas pipeline project in the Black Sea. Pioneering Spirit will go back to the Black Sea later this year to continue the deep-water pipelay work of Line 2 of the Turk Stream.

As far as the Johan Sverdrup is concerned, Allseas will install of three platform topsides on the Johan Sverdrup field. The Pioneering Spirit will be conduct this work of installing the topsides for the drilling, processing and living quarter platforms.

The vessel can lift as much as 48,000 tons, while the heaviest lift that will be carried out during installation of the processing platform topside weighs about 26,000 tons.
