Delays expected at the Port of Limassol

TIN news:  The North of England P&I Club has announced that the transition from a state-owned port to a privately-owned port on 29 January 2017 have resulted a number of operational and logistical problems at the Port of Limassol.
The backlog of trucks at the port entrance and vessels waiting to discharge containers is said to be due to the port operating at a reduced capacity.  It is reported that the principal reason for this reduced capacity is that three of the port’s four cranes are either in need of repair or complete replacement.
Past industrial action taken by port employees and pilots has also had an impact on port operations and further industrial action cannot be ruled out at this time. While the new operators are working to resolve these issues, increased port handling charges have been published with immediate effect.
