Rolls - Royce to supply ۱۴۰ MTU PowerPacks to CAF

TIN news:  Rolls-Royce has secured a contract to supply 140 MTU Series 1800 PowerPacks to CAF, a Spain-based rolling stock manufacturer.
Featuring the 6H 1800 R85L engine, the environmentally friendly PowerPacks will be used to power a total of 55 regional trains that are expected to become operational in northern England from December next year.
MTU industrial business vice-president Bernd Krüper said: “We are delighted at having been able, once again, to convince demanding customers in the rail sector of the performance and reliability of our innovative, proven traction solutions.”
The British Rail Class 195 diesel trains will be operated by the main German rail operator Deutsche Bahn’s subsidiary Arriva Rail North and will have a capacity to reach maximum speeds of 160km per hour.
They consist of 25 two-car and 30 three-car vehicles and are planned to be used on the future Northern Connect network in the north of England.
Northern Connect will link the major cities of Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle with other towns and cities such as Chester, Barrow-in-Furness, Nottingham and Hull.

The MTU brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
CAF’s MTU PowerPacks are set to deliver 390kW of power output and will be integrated with a SCR unit that would reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide produced.
The Series 1800 engines have high-power density and low levels of consumption.
The British Rail Class 195 trains represent the largest of several joint rail projects between Rolls-Royce and CAF.
