Gatwick reports record passenger traffic in November

TIN news:  The UK's Gatwick Airport has welcomed an additional 2.7 million passengers to its annual passenger number, with a record 2.8 million passengers travelling to and from the airport in November this year.
The increase in the figures records a 7.3% growth in passenger traffic compared to that in the same month last year.
Additionally, long-haul services at the airport increased significantly by 20% last month, which has driven a cargo growth of 12% during the same period.
With the increased long-haul services and freight volumes, Gatwick Airport continued making significant contributions in the local, regional and national economy during the airport’s busiest-ever November.
The considerable long-haul growth at the airport has been a result of the contributions made by UK-based charter airline Thomson Airways as it added new routes to Sri Lanka from last month.
"Passengers are responding to our growing line-up of long-haul connections, with routes to China, Peru, Canada, Costa Rica, Nigeria and the US added this last year."
Gatwick chief executive officer Stewart Wingate said: “Almost three million more passengers are travelling through the airport this year versus the same time last year, with 42.7 million passengers passing through the airport annually, this figure puts us 14 years ahead of industry predictions.
“Passengers are responding to our growing line-up of long-haul connections, with routes to China, Peru, Canada, Costa Rica, Nigeria and the US added this last year.”
Owing to the demand for airport’s existing connections to Hong Kong, Gatwick Airport has announced added services to the region.
Hong Kong’s national carrier Cathay Pacific has decided that from June next year it would operate daily from Gatwick Airport instead of its current four-times-weekly service.
UK-based company Thomas Cook has commenced a new service to Cape Town in South Africa, thereby adding to British Airways’ current service and making six flights weekly to the city from Gatwick Airport.
