Rotterdam: The Port Authority signs international LNG agreements

TIN news:   During the International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (SIBCON), the Port of Rotterdam Authority signed a declaration of intent. The declaration contains international agreements about the bunkering of LNG (liquefied natural gas) by maritime transport. Japan and Korea as well as the ports of Singapore, Antwerp and Zeebrugge also signed the cooperation agreement.
The signing of the declaration is an important step in the transition from fuel oil to LNG as fuel for shipping, one of the spearheads of the Port of Rotterdam Authority. Roland van Assche, Bulk & Shipping Manager: “The Rotterdam LNG port is in full development. This year, the Ternsund was the first sea-going vessel to bunker LNG in Rotterdam; at the end of the year, the Gate terminal will open a third LNG berth for loading LNG bunker barges and next year we will have an LNG bunkering vessel, thanks to Shell. We hope that many will follow our example, because only if other ports also embrace LNG can we succeed in our mission. Therefore, it is essential that in addition to Singapore, maritime nations such as Japan and Korea also embrace liquefied natural gas.”
